Our green policies
Nexnet strives continuously to minimise the impact of its operations on the environment.
Travel to and from work
The company chose deliberately to locate its office in the city centre of Leeds and within 10 minutes’ walk of the city's railway station and main bus station so that all staff, wherever they live, have the option of travelling to and from work by public transport. Staff members are actively discouraged from travelling by car because there is no car parking provision at the office, and no free car parking available anywhere in the vicinity. Currently all members of staff choose public transport, and one frequently opts to travel by bicycle, taking advantage of a free bicycle stand located very close to our office.
Travel to client meetings
We agree with our retained clients that meetings should be restricted to one per client per month in order to reduce travel costs and reduce impact on the environment. Where possible, Nexnet consultants will travel to client premises by public transport, and when that's not suitable we will travel in no more than one car carrying up to four Nexnet personnel.
Electricity usage and equipment recycling
Nexnet is committed to reducing electricity usage. We choose to buy low-energy office equipment when practicable. Electrical equipment and lighting is only switched on when it is required, is switched off when not required, and all of it is switched off at the end of every working day, with the exception of the network server which performs a back-up function overnight. Equipment that is replaced is always considered for continued use in a downgraded role. Equipment ultimately not required is offered first to staff members for private use, then to charities collecting for developing countries or UK community organisations, and only as a last resort is it disposed of as waste.
Consumables purchasing and recycling
Nexnet aims to conserve natural resources by purchasing products that are environmentally friendly, reusable and recyclable. Empty printer cartridges are returned to the manufacturer for refilling. Paper used for office printing but then not required for operational use is saved and used for printing on the reverse side. All office printers have a tray of paper for recycling. Incoming products such as re-usable packaging or stationery items are saved for recycling. Old newspapers and magazines are taken to a city council recycling collection centre close to our office. Nexnet policy is to conduct as much business as possible electronically in order to save paper
Communicatiing this poloicy
