Expert advice from Barnsley solicitor
Legal matters affecting the older generation will be the subject of an event in Barnsley next week.
Angela Galvin, head of the Property, Wills and Probate department at Raleys Solicitors will be hosting an informal discussion at the Age Concern Day Centre, in Queens Road, Barnsley, on Monday 15 February at 1pm.
People of all ages can visit the centre and ask Angela for advice relating to will-writing, protecting assets and granting someone Lasting Power of Attorney.
Angela said: “This is an informal event where people can come along, enjoy a cup of tea and have a chat about things which often are not easy to discuss with family and loved ones. Contemplating a time when they can no longer manage their affairs can be very upsetting but not putting plans in place and not understanding the legal consequences of any instructions can lead to difficulties in the future.
“Hopefully this will be the first of many similar events in Barnsley and I hope people will come along and speak to me in an informal environment like this. Sometimes, walking into a solicitor’s office can feel quite daunting and can put people off. I recognise that the law can be confusing and I hope that these kind of sessions will help spread understanding of older peoples’ legal rights.”
Angela has previously given presentations to the National Pensioners’ Forum in Barnsley and offered advice to staff at Barnsley Hospice. She also visits the Age Concern Advice Centre to keep volunteers there up to date with the law surrounding pensioners’ issues.
